Over the weekend, my sister-in-law reminded me that I hadn’t done a blog post about the house we bought! So here it finally is. Back in June, we met with a realtor after doing some research on who we wanted to work with. We told him what we were looking for: 3 bed, 2 bath in a certain area in a school district with no pool under a certain amount and be able to move in around mid to late August.
When I first talked to him and told him about the criteria he mentioned that he was working with a family that wanted to sell their house right around the time we wanted to move in and it met all of our criteria. He thought it would be perfect for us. He sent me the address and I took a look at it but totally forgot about it. After that he started sending us houses through the website and we would put love, like, or dislike. We were able to see our first set of houses on Fourth of July weekend. We saw one from the website and he took us by the house he thought we’d like. The first house was a bust but the house he was selling was definitely a contender.
After looking at some more houses that weekend, we kept going back to the house he was selling. We liked the layout, the updates they had made, and the neighborhood. There were some changes we wanted to make but we knew they were doable. After seeing some of the other houses and knowing how competitive the market was, we decided to put an offer in on our house so we wouldn’t have to have any competition. They accepted our offer and we closed in August and officially moved in in September.
It’s been a whirlwind since then. Between deep cleaning the house before we moved in to actually moving in, that first week was a blur. After that we hired painters to come paint the main rooms which was the smartest decision we ever made. We tackled the smaller rooms and I don’t ever want to pick up a paint brush again 🙂 We’re almost done painting the doors and some trim so I’m looking forward to having that done.
One of my favorite parts of the house is the kitchen. I’m not a huge fan of the glass-front cabinets but it is nice to see all of our Fiesta Ware! We haven’t gotten around to hanging anything on the walls so I think we’re going to work on that in the next couple of weeks. I’ll have better pictures of the whole house then. We’re also going to do a lot of work in the backyard so I’ll keep you updated on that. It feels so good to be a homeowner!
